Whether you're a John Steinbeck fan or love a good tea party in an amazing atmosphere, you are sure to love the Steinbeck House Restaurant in Salinas.  It is less than 15 minutes from the RV Park in the Laguna Seca Recreation Area and a perfect place for lunch or tea.
It is also only two block from the National Steinbeck Center.

This Victorian home was the birthplace and boyhood home of author, John Steinbeck, famous author of such classics as "Grapes of Wrath", "East of Eden", "Of Mice and Men" and "Travels with Charley" among many others.    The house was built in 1897 and the Steinbeck family moved in three years later.    The home is now cared for and run by the Valley Guild.

According to their website, "The Valley Guild was formed by eight enthusiastic women who shared a common interest in gourmet cooking and wanted to showcase Salinas Valley produce. The volunteers of Valley Guild purchased and renovated the house. It was opened to the public as a restaurant on February 27, 1974 —the 72nd anniversary of John Steinbeck’s birth."

The restaurant offers a set lunch entree each day with one alternative and several sandwiches or salads to choose from.  Desserts are also offered each day.  Prices are reasonable. Your servers are very knowledgeable about Steinbeck and are in period clothing.  Check out the link below to see what will be served each day.  The house is operated by volunteers with a minimum of paid staff.   Your tips given to volunteer service workers are put toward maintenance of the house.

The house is also available for groups of 12 or more.   A docent will be present to give you more detail about Steinbeck and the house if you like.   You may also rent specific rooms or the whole house for meetings, weddings or family functions.
Call for group reservations only:
