WASHINGTON, DC -- The National Association of Broadcasters announced today election results for the organization's radio and television board of directors. The two-year terms of the newly elected board members will begin at the June 2011 NAB Joint Board of Directors meeting.

Radio is dead!  It's over! Fine'! The Internet and smart phones killed it!  Really? 

Not according to a new Arbitron survey released this morning.  The rating service released its RADAR 108 National Radio Listening Report and showed  "a 2.1 million increase in weekly listeners." The report shows that "radio reaches 93.1 percent of persons twelve and older." Well, about the younger demos?  \In the adults aged 18-34...

As if radio didn't have enough troubles as it struggles back after the economy and other new media has slammed it.  Today, the White House officially sided with the record companies and endorsed the performance fee for playing the RIAA music on the radio.  The National Association of Broadcasters was none too pleased at the announcement.  Dennis Wharton responded with the following statement below...

Cumulus media has agreed to buy Citadel Broadcasting with a reported bid of about $2.4 BILLION...$37 a share.  Cumulus says they see the deal closing by the end of the year. This will give Cumulus new presence in major markets and bring its total count of radio stations to 572..still leaving it behind Clear Channel's 800 or so stations.
