A must thing to do while you are staying at Pillar Point RV Park is to walk, bike or drive over to Pillar Point Beach and take a walk on the path around the Air Force station to the Maverick's surf area.  It's peaceful and it's beautiful.  Walk on the path or drive north on Highway 1 to Capistrano and turn left..follow the street around to the Mezza Luna restaurant and turn left on Prospect...a short block, turn right on Broadway...as you follow that street around it changes names to California, then Cornell, then Stanford. Be sure not to go right at the fork...then turn right on West point drive and follow the road around to the parking lot on the left.

Pillar Point Beach is actually the south end of the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve...the Pillar Point Marsh is home to unique plants, birds and other animals in its changing and productive ecosystem...

Take a nice leisurely walk on the well cared for path and note the different views and sounds...just a short distance down the path is a wonderful stop with benches...you can even meditate by walking the labyrinth in front of the benches...you'll see incredible seaboards including the lovely Sanderling sandpipers....then, at the end of the path it all changes as you come face to face with Mavericks...this famous surfing area sometimes spawns waves 30 feet and higher....

Back at the parking lot if you look to your right you'll see an opening and a path way up the hill where you can get a close up view of the Pillar Point air station, the incredible beach below...and an aeriel view of Mavericks...It's a hike up hill, but, with well cut out paths it is very doable and well worth the effort....

From the top of the mountain you can also get a great perspective of the Pillar Point Habor as well...

Don't miss this wonderful experience, just five minutes away from Pillar Point RV Park
