Thanksgiving at
Pillar Point
RV Park

Lucky all of us!  RVers have such a flexible lifestyle, we can be with our friends and family on Thanksgiving and still enjoy the beautiful weather and the ocean at the same time.

Here are some Thanksgiving dinner options you may want to enjoy if you're here at Pillar Point RV Park.

BRING IN A READY MADE MEAL

SAFEWAY
70 Cabrillo Hwy,
Half Moon Bay, CA 94019
(650) 726-1143

Price: $49.99 includes:

10-12 pound turkey (feeds 6-8 people)
mashed potatoes/gravy
stuffing
rolls
cranberries
pumpkin pie

Lorraine has had this dinner several times and she says the turkey is delicious and all the sides work perfectly.    Everything is cooked, but cold so just pop it in the oven to warm it up.

You may pick up your meal either on the 27th or on Thanksgiving until 5pm.   Be sure to put in your order early, because once the store is sold out, they will not take any more orders and sometimes they are sold out by the Monday before Thanksgiving.

CRAB
Pillar Point Harbor is well known for its crab.  Who says you have to have turkey?  Maybe crab is more your style or crab AND turkey...

PRINCETON FISH MARKET, is about two blocks away from the park.   With commercial crab season opening November 15th, there will be lots of fresh crab for everyone.  You will be able to buy it from the market or you could walk out onto wharf and get your live crab right from the boats.

Rob at the fish market says if you buy the crab off the boat, you can bring it to them to get it ready.  (Unless you want to do it yourself)   It costs $2.50 per crab to crack, clean and cook.   Depending how busy it is, you may have to drop off your crab and return later to pick it up.  You will want to do that as early in the week and as early in the day as possible.   Rob says people line up hours before opening, like there's some kind of rock concert going on or something.

Like turkey, there's lots of wonderful dishes you can make with left over crab.
Oops...did I say left over crab?  Never mind...

The fish market is open daily 11am-6pm (closed on Thanksgiving)
Most fishermen will be around on the 28th to sell their crab.

ROTISSERIE AT YOUR SITE
Some of the wonderful new rigs have big size ovens and you will have no trouble getting a medium sized turkey in them.  However, if your oven is smaller, or you don't want to cook, here's some ideas for a wonderful Thanksgiving while you are at Pillar Point RV Park in Half Moon Bay.

My Ron Propiel "Set It and Forget It" Rotisserie oven is great when we RV, especially at Thanksgiving.  You can fit a small turkey it in and let the machine do its thing outdoors.
After cleaning, I usually just spray some butter flavored Pam on it, sprinkle with season salt and pepper, spray lightly again and sprinkle with tarragon.   Using cotton string, I tie up the turkey and place it on the rods.   Cook about 12 minutes per pound or until the meat thermometer reads an inside temperature of around 170 degrees.  Take the turkey off the rods, cover with tin foil and let it rest for about 20 minutes. The outside is crispy and the inside juicy.
