Half Moon Bay's Triathlon Action
Takes Place In Front of
Pillar Point RV Park

I have said it before and I'll say it again. There's always something going on at Pillar Point RV Park.   Today, April 19th, 2015 was the 1st annual Half Moon Bay Triathlon.

838 athletes braved the freezing water and down right cold morning temperatures as they swam, biked and ran through the course.  It was definitely a gray day...the clouds and haze never really burned off.

The big event included a 1.5 kilometer swim, a 40-kilometer bike ride and a 10-kilometer run.

Running at the same time was the Silicon Valley Sprint Triathlon, with a .35-mile swim, 9.5-mile bike ride and 3.1-mile run.   Overall,  there were a multitude of events for a myriad of ages and weight classes.

The swimming took place in the Pillar Point Harbor, which you can see from the Pillar Point RV Park and the running portion passed right by us on the path running in front of the park!

The event, (Silicon Valley International Triathlon) was moved from Morgan Hill to Half Moon Bay because the water levels in UVAS Reservoir in Santa Clara County were too low to support the swimming portion of the event.

Here's Lorraine cheering on the runners.  She shows us she's eating yogurt, not ice cream!

A portion of race proceeds will benefit the "Boys and Girls Club of the Coastside" in addition to $20 per volunteer to Half Moon Bay-area charities, school clubs and athletic programs.

One of the racers, Mimi Zhang, stayed at the park the night before the event.  We all cheered her on as she passed by both ways!

It was such great fun watching all the runners of all ages and sizes giving it their all.   The least we could do was offer enthusiastic encouragement...and you could tell it was appreciated.

Mimi's friends gave us all a chuckle when they broke out the inflatable couch to watch the runners go by.   It gave the athletes quite a laugh too.   They mostly wanted to know where the BBQ and flat screen TV was!

All in all, it was a great morning.  The whole race was over by 10am.
What a day!
