Grant "Twiggy" Baker, 40, from South Africa won the Maverick's Surf Invitational today handily beating five other finalists,  Shane Dorian, Ryan Augustein, Tyler Fox, Greg Long, and Anthony Tashnick.   Baker also won Mavericks in 2006.

Trophy and Prize Money: First place is $12,000, second place is $6,000 and third place is $5,000, according to Mavericks Invitational spokeswoman ...

Surf's Up Bigtime!

Set after set of amazing waves are pounding the shore here at Pillar Point RV Park!  Forecast says the waves will only be getting bigger all week, peaking this weekend.  

The sound of the waves is deafening and some of them come in so hot, you can feel your rig shake.   It's breathtaking as the waves hit the jetty and fly up into the sky.

There must be a lot of empty seats in the classrooms because young...

The last two days have been extraordinary here at the beach!  Eighteen to twenty foot waves are pounding the coastline here and surfers are flocking to the beach by the dozens.    Amazing to sit and watch the surfers do their thing.

Several of us sat up til nearly 11pm last night watching the huge waves splash over the jetty, each one more beautiful...and the action continued today, all day long.   If you've been he...

A must thing to do while you are staying at Pillar Point RV Park is to walk, bike or drive over to Pillar Point Beach and take a walk on the path around the Air Force station to the Maverick's surf area.  It's peaceful and it's beautiful.  Walk on the path or drive north on Highway 1 to Capistrano and turn left..follow the street around to the Mezza Luna restaurant and turn left on Prospect...a short block, turn right on Broadway...as ...

Pillar Point RV Park is located smack dab in the middle of the surfing world.  Turn your head to the left, and you'll see "Surfer's Beach" where there's several dozen surfers in the water at any given time.  Turn your head right, and you can see Maverick's point and the surf shop of Jeff Clark, founder of the International Maverick's surf competition.    And guess what...they teach you how to surf.    ...
