Park Happenings

In honor of National Aviation week, it's ironic that two recent visitors to Pillar Point RV Park, who are both aviators, stayed here within days of each other.

David Kinser and Brian Hewitt are both pilots who also have the hobby of being paragliders!
David jumps off mountains and cliffs to soar like a bird, while Brian uses a powered paraglider and can take off wherever there's a small clearing!

Here are two video interviews and photos we put tog...

THE LOG WILL
LIVE ON!

Around two years ago, there was a storm so fierce, that it tossed this massive log up and onto the rocks right in front of Pillar Point RV Park.   It has since become the site of many a beach selfie and a popular couples resting spot.

So word spread like wildfire around the park when two men, one with a chain saw, were cutting up the log!   I grabbed my camera and ran to where they were to not only to se...

YOU OUGHTA SEE THE OTTER!

While we have seen whales, sea lions and pelicans, it's truly not very often that we get a chance to view a sea otter!   This otter has been hanging around in front of Pillar Point RV Park for several days.   The otter floats on his back eating and resting, traveling with the current along the length of the jetty.

While most of us think of sea otters as cute little guys, they are actually quite ...

HAPPY 4TH FROM THE BEACH!

The 4th of July was just about perfect here at Pillar Point RV Park.   The weather was very nice. Alternating sunshine and cool fog made for a not too hot, not too cold day. Lots of groups and families joined us at the park.  Most pulled in on Tuesday and the park was sold out on Wednesday for the weekend.  It actually turned out to be more than just a one day celebration!  Bonfires, BBQ's waftin...

Holy Moly!...an APB must have been put out Monday, calling all sea lions, sea gulls and Pelicans to Surfer's Beach right in front of Pillar Point RV Park!

Not to mention, a very large research ship...

Half Moon Bay's Triathlon Action
Takes Place In Front of
Pillar Point RV Park

I have said it before and I'll say it again. There's always something going on at Pillar Point RV Park.   Today, April 19th, 2015 was the 1st annual Half Moon Bay Triathlon.

838 athletes braved the freezing water and down right cold morning temperatures as they swam, biked and ran through the course.  It was definitely a gray day...the clouds and haze never...
It was a lively week at
Pillar Point RV Park!

Kids on spring break always make for a celebratory feeling here.  Kids on bikes, BBQ's fired up, late nights around the campfire. I would say it was a terrific week with lots of good weather.

Two things in particular really caused some commotion.

A 7 month old baby seal, weighing about 16 pounds, was found on the jetty rocks in front of the park Tuesday afternoon.   T...

BLOOD MOON ECLIPSE

April 4, 1015.  The third of four lunar eclipses was seen perfectly at Pillar Point RV Park in Half Moon Bay, just 20 minutes south of San Francisco, California.

While the actual eclipse, where the moon is totally covered by Earth's shadow only lasts approximately five minutes, the entire event, where the shadow approaches, crosses and departs view on the moon lasted three and a half hours.

The eclipse took place at 4:58 t...
