MAVERICKS 2014 WINNER

Grant "Twiggy" Baker

Grant "Twiggy" Baker, 40, from South Africa won the Maverick's Surf Invitational today handily beating five other finalists,  Shane Dorian, Ryan Augustein, Tyler Fox, Greg Long, and Anthony Tashnick.   Baker also won Mavericks in 2006.

Trophy and Prize Money: First place is $12,000, second place is $6,000 and third place is $5,000, according to Mavericks Invitational spokeswoman ...

It's coming around to be that time of year again!  


Mavericks Surf Invitational season begins November 1st and will run through March 31, 2014.   This year’s Opening Ceremony will take place on the beach on Friday, October 25, 2013. The day features the official Opening Ceremony and paddle-out to share the spirit of this special place with the community that embraces the world of big wave surfing.

There was a little hub bub today when our group noticed a grass fire starting across the harbor on the path that leads to Mavericks.   The first thing that was done was that 911 was called.  It was a little tough getting the message across to them  because it's a path, not a street and the call center was not local.   It wasn't much longer before the fire trucks and the sirens passed and we saw them putting out the ...

Holy Cow!



The waves today are breathtaking right here in front of Pillar Point RV Park.   The beauty as they splash over the breakwater is nothing short of inspirational!   There are at least two dozen surfers out today closer to where we are, but the photo I most wanted to share with you today is the one I just shot  across the harbor....magnificent!   Who needs to even leave the park when you have such spectac...

One of the activities that you can't escape at Pillar Point RV Park is biking.   One of the most beautiful trails runs right in front of your rig.   No bike? No problem.  Here's a list of places you can rent a bike, as well as guided tours and local favorite trails.
