The month of March definitely came in like a lion this morning.    With heavy storm patterns to the north and south of us, the pacific ocean attacked the shoreline of Pillar Point RV Park relentlessly.   High tide brought waves so furious, they created a froth that looked like snow and covered a large area on the land side of the jetty.

What jetty?  The waves roared in and were not deterred by the jetty as they splas...

Pillar Point is a perfect place to go kayaking.   There's quiet waters in the harbor for those just getting started and open ocean for those with more experience who are looking for a challenge.   We've even seen many kayaks filled with fishing gear as they set out around the jetty.

There's a pod of dolphins that make their presence known fairly often right off the jetty in front of Pillar Point RV Park.   Catching them on film is quite another thing because, you know, they don't exactly have a schedule and if they do, they haven't let us know....lol

Today was my lucky day and while it's not the world's greatest shot, at least I one good
enough to share to show you how close they come to the RV park.

The beach was quite popular today with kids of all ages.  It was over 80 degrees in  Half Moon Bay today!...

We have had so much fun just taking off south on Highway 1 and stopping often at all the beaches and parks.   There are a ton of beautiful photo opportunities along the way.

Just a short walk down the path that runs in front of the Pillar Point RV Park is the Half Moon Bay Kayak Company.   If you're taking a stroll toward the Harbor you can't miss the colorful collection of kayaks on the beach.

They offer a whole range of tours, classes and camps for people of all ages.

THE JOHNSTON HOUSE


James Johnston's white salt box house sits on a hill facing the ocean just south of Half Moon Bay on Highway 1.  In 1853, Johnston owned all the land from his home to the ocean.   He built the house for his wife, Petra.  It was the first all wood house to be built in the area.  (slide show is below and an interview with a docent )
