YEAR OF THE MONKEY - LUNAR YEAR 4714
Another wonderful reason to stay at Pillar Point RV Park is that it is easy to get to the annual Chinese New Year Parade. This parade, named one of the world's top ten parades, is the largest celebration of its kind outside of Asia. With over 100 floats and marching groups, the parade lasts over two hours.

The parade begins at Second and Market Streets, proceeds west on Market to Kearny, and then north on Kearny to Post, then west on Post to Powell, and then north on Powell to Sutter, then east on Sutter back to Kearny to Columbus Avenue, where the parade will disperse.
The entire parade route is an excellent place to view the parade but it does get more crowded as you get closer to Chinatown. Choose a spot before 4:30pm.
Bleacher seats are available but must be purchased in advance. The tickets get
you a seat on the bleachers, but specific seats are not assigned, so you can sit anywhere you like. Order on line
www.chineseparade.com or call the Parade Office 415 340-3055. The price is $30 per ticket. Children under two are free, but must sit on a parent's lap. All tickets are non-refundable. Bleachers are open, no coverage above seats. You will need to dress warm.
If you can't make the parade in person, you can watch it on television on
KTVU Fox 2 or
KTSF Channel 26, 6:00-8:00 p.m., on
Saturday, March 7, 2015. Location: Grant Avenue from California to Broadway Pacific Avenue from Kearny to Stockton; Washington & Jackson Street from Kearny to Stockton
The street fair features dance, drumming and acrobats from all over Asia, giant walking puppets, tons of shopping and the ability to have a family photo taken with a giant dragon!
Flower Market Fair Getting there!
Take BART to the Chinese New Year Parade! You won't have to battle massive traffic or worry about parking. Just so you know, a lot of the parking lots sell spaces in their lots ahead of time for this event, so we highly recommend public transportation.
To avoid long ticket lines, buy a round trip ticket for the parade in advance at any BART station. From Pillar Point RV Park, go to the Colma Bart station, purchase a round trip ticket for $6.60. From there, you will exit at the Powell Street Station which puts you out at Powell and Market streets. Walk 2.5 blocks toward 3rd street. Go left onto Kearny Street. Walk up two blocks to the intersection of Bush and Kearny where you will see the entrance to Chinatown. Check out the map above and think about where you would like to watch the parade.
