Lucy Dies
Lucy was headed toward the ocean yesterday and we were thrilled that she was going in the right direction, but her timing wasn't the best. While the river was full and vibrant when she entered to raise her calf, after six weeks, the river has become more shallow, exposing the riverbeds and surprise sandbars mid river.
So it is with a sad heart that I have to report that during the night, Lucy got caught on one of those sandbars and died early Tuesday morning around 4am.
She not only took care of her calf, but she engaged and delighted thousands of people who flocked to see her. We will never forget her. What a beautiful creature she was....
