The waves woke me up this morning and if you peeked out the window of our trailer like I did, the sight would have taken your breath away. Big beautiful waves were hitting the jetty and sending sprays of water jumping in the sky, the sun drawing mini rainbows in the mist. Since we've been here, that's the way most days begin! Lucky us!
Pillar Point RV Park is located 3 miles north of Half Moon Bay off Highway 1...and we've become big fans. First of all, our hosts Lorraine and Bar, Terri and Kenny, are friendly and welcoming. They made us feel like we were coming home.
Pillar Point RV Park has 48 spaces with full hook ups and operates on a first come, first serve basis. No reservations are needed or accepted. You must be wholly contained as there are no showers or restrooms.
The park is in walking distance of just about everything! A paved bike/walking path winds between your rig and the ocean and leads to Pillar Point Harbor. There you find all kinds of restaurants and shops, not to mention fresh seafood caught that day. Of course, this is the perfect place for your dog, too.
Across Highway 1 is the post office and a hardware store that has milk and their famous Pumpkin ice cream. Half Moon Bay is the home of the annual Pumpkin Festival every October. The highlight of the weekend festival is the judging of the biggest pumpkin with the winner often weighing in at over 1,600 pounds!
You can rent a kayak, go whale watching, take a horseback ride on the beach, visit two historic lighthouses, explore tide pools dine at excellent restaurants or just relax and enjoy dramatic sunsets. Here's the thing...watching the ocean and the surfers takes away the stress. If you want to move about, there's lots to do within walking distance, but get this...Pillar Point RV is just 30 minutes south of the famed San Francisco Zoo and all that San Francisco has to offer! Then about 45 minutes south of Pillar Point on Highway One is Santa Cruz! The drive itself is spectacular and Santa Cruz has the beach boardwalk that features rides and a giant arcade and live music on the beach weekend nights in the summer.
Ham and I are just getting our feet wet here and can't wait to explore and tell you about the area and all it has to offer. In the meantime, here are some of the photos I've taken in just the few days we've been here...
