DEVIL'S SLIDE TRAIL

Devil's Slide Trail, a 1.3-mile path for hikers, cyclists and horseback riders is finally open. It's the latest addition to the San Mateo County Parks system. The trail, built over what was a section of Highway One, has been repaved.  Restrooms have been added to the parking lots and there are three overlooks. Benches sprinkle the trail and an array of interpretive panels along the way inform you of the area's history, ge...

A PIECE OF HISTORY
on display

As you head north on Hwy 1, you'll pass through Moss Beach and Monterra and through the part of the road locals call "Devil's Slide".

There, you'll notice something that stands on top of the mountain, overlooking the ocean...it's not a statue, not a natural land formation!   So what is it?

It's a WWII Gun Turret.  Several of these turrets were built along the California coast in this area to be o...
SONOMA WINE COUNTRY
Where do we go?

The town of Sonoma began with the building of Mission San Francisco Solano in 1823 by Father José Altimira of the Franciscan Order. This mission was the farthest north of all 21 California missions.  Soon after it was built, it was secularized by the Mexican government under the orders of Lieutenant, later General, Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo. He maintained good relationships with the Native Americans of the...
One of the things I really love at the Vineyard RV Park is all the beautiful flowers, trees and landscaping.  At Vineyard RV Park, they really have grape vines draped around the club house and they are laden with beautiful bunches of grapes this time of year.   The smell of Jasmine on the way to the laundry room makes even washing clothes a pleasant experience.   Watch the slide show and see what I'm talking about!

"The Real Housewives of New Jersey" cast visited Pillar Point RV Park in three Class A motorhomes as part of their RV road trip they were filming for the new season of the show.  Producers picked the park because it's right on the Pacific Ocean.

El Granada, CA 94018

Right across Hwy 1 within walking distance from Pillar Point RV Park is Creekside Smokehouse.   It doesn't look like much from the outside but inside, well, it doesn't look like much on the inside either...lol...but you will find some really friendly folks and some of the best smoked fish and cheese in the area.

The 17 Mile Drive is certainly something you should take while you are visiting the Monterey Peninsula.  There are five entrance gates, however the one easiest to access from the Laguna Seca RV Park, is the Highway 1 Gate located on the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 68 going west.

(There's a slide show below of my favorite 17 Mile Drive photos)

There is a $9.50 fee to enter Pebble Beach.    An attendant wi...

Just down the road from Kamp Klamath you'll find access to both the river and the ocean.  It is here that the local Yurok tribe have one of their ceremonial grounds.

This is a dance pit.
"Brush Dance" is a ceremony held to heal a sick child or to pray for a long, healthy life for the child.  Entire families and villages come together.   The dance begins on a Wednesday and continue...
