Just down the road from Kamp Klamath you'll find access to both the river and the ocean.  It is here that the local Yurok tribe have one of their ceremonial grounds.

This is a dance pit.
"Brush Dance" is a ceremony held to heal a sick child or to pray for a long, healthy life for the child.  Entire families and villages come together.   The dance begins on a Wednesday and continue...
Here's the thing: When you're located on one of the finest salmon fishing rivers in the world, you're used to only the best king salmon...and when you have the best king salmon, prep it in an all-natural brine  and cold smoke it over red alder, you get the best smoked king salmon.

I was sitting with Mary on Friday when she was preparing Doug's latest batch of smoked salmon  for the Farmer's Market in Crescent City.

One of the most breathtaking places I've ever seen is a place called Fern Canyon.   If you have just one more day, this is a must see thing to do.

We shared the experience with Kamp Klamath owner, Aaron Funk and his friend, Carol.  He told us the history of Gold Bluff and Fern Canyon and how it relates to the early gold miners.  You can hear his explanation on RVdream.com in the video playlist marked Fern Canyon.

The entrance...
While you're camping or in your RV at Kamp Klamath, you may find the need to stop by an ATM.   In a small community it may be tough to find one, so we put together a list of where you can find an ATM in Klamath, California without having to go all the way to Crescent City.

THE VALUE OF TRADITION
A group of boys from the Yurok tribe got a lesson in how to prepare a traditional tribal salmon dinner while they were staying at Kamp Klamath for the weekend.   (Yurok is pronounced "YOOR-ock." That means "downriver" in the Karok language.)  We were lucky to be invited to see what they were doing and spread the word about the work they are doing with at risk kids.

Sammy explains to the boys abou...
We love dogs!

Kamp Klamath is a perfect place for dogs!  There's lots of woods and a big meadow to explore.  A river and an ocean to jump into. Beaches to run on.  Most importantly, since almost everyone who visits has a dog, you're among dog loving people.    In fact, our dogs are good will ambassadors and lead us to making acquaintances and finding new friends.

There are times however, when you need to ...
Baby Gray returns to ocean.   Mom still in the river.

After two days of swimming further and further away from his mother, the baby gray whale
has split from his mother completely and has made his way back to the ocean.  In the meantime, mom continues to swim circles right under the Golden Bear Bridge on Hwy 101 in Klamath, California.

Authorities are starting to worry because the mother seems to be moving up river which becom...
Visiting Kamp Klamath?  Try crabbing in Crescent City, CA

How about some free food!    If you're tired of paying way too much for half a crab in a highly average restaurant, why not just go get your own fresh Dungeness crab right out of the ocean?

From Kamp Klamath, in Klamath, California, it's a beautiful 20 mile drive by the ocean and through the redwoods to Crescent City.  On our way to visit the lighthouse, we s...
The mother California Grey Whale and her calf  (Lucy and Little Ricky) are still here in the Klamath River.   They are hanging out closer and closer to the shore, delighting people who are now coming from neighboring cities all over to see them.   It appears, however, that the whales are having as much fun watching us as we are watching them.    You'll see in one part of this new video that Lucy comes clos...
Hamilton and I have been on the road non-stop for over nine months now and we've experienced a lot of RV Parks and Resorts.   While we've enjoyed most places we've visited, it wasn't until we landed at Kamp Klamath, in Klamath, California, that we truly realized what peace can be found on the road.   So without further ado, here's my top ten list of why I love being at Kamp Klamath...
