California is paying a dollar more a gallon in
gasoline than the rest of the U.S.

It has never been that different. Start with the environmentalists who have pushed to have supposedly ultra clean gasoline specifications... when refineries are off line in California they cannot ask for help from neighboring states because of the strict mixtures. California also pays higher crude oil costs..the lack of pipelines into the state, again kept out by the environmentalists. And finally, California has the second highest gasoline tax in the country. California's average is $4.283 a gallon..South Carolina's is $3.266...the national average is $3.641.(Alaska's is $4.509..Hawaii's is $4.541)
